He began his career with the Shell Group of Companies before serving as CEO for MISC Berhad, PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad, PETRONAS Lubricants International (while simultaneously serving as the Vice President for Downstream Marketing), Icon Offshore Berhad, Themed Attractions Resorts and Hotels Sdn Bhd (Khazanah Nasional Berhads subsidiary) and Tenaga Nasional Berhad.
Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Management Majoring in Finance and Economics from the Syracuse University, United States of America.
Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah is also a board member at Malaysian Resource Corporation Berhad.
