Datuk Mohamad Helmy Othman Basha

Datuk Mohamad Helmy Othman Basha, 59, a Malaysian, was appointed Advisor to the Board of Directors of SD Guthrie Berhad (Guthrie) on 1 January 2026. He previously served as the Group Managing Director, a position he held since 1 July 2019.

He began his career with Wellers Accountants, Oxford, United Kingdom in 1988. Upon returning to Malaysia in 1991, he joined Shell Malaysia Group of Companies and subsequently in 1997, moved to Kumpulan Guthrie Berhad, where he was entrusted with various senior roles across the group’s property and plantation businesses in Malaysia and Indonesia. He was then appointed Chief Executive Officer of Highlands & Lowlands Berhad and Guthrie Ropel Berhad prior to the merger of Kumpulan Guthrie Berhad, Golden Hope Plantations Berhad and Sime Darby Berhad in 2007.

Following the merger, he was appointed Head of Upstream Malaysia at Guthrie – then Sime Darby Plantation – and left in 2013 to pursue other interests. He rejoined Guthrie in 2016, where he held several key positions before assuming the role of Group Managing Director in 2019.

He currently serves as the Chairman of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board.

Datuk Mohamad Helmy is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and a member of both the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, and the Incorporated Society of Planters.
