Welcome to the SD Guthrie Hotspot Dashboard. This dashboard provides transparent reporting on hotspots detected within and around our operational areas as part of our commitment to responsible land management and fire prevention. 

As the pioneer of the Zero Burning Replanting Technique in 1985, we maintain a strict zero-burning policy across all our operations and continues to strengthen fire prevention, monitoring and response efforts through collaboration and sustainable practices.

SD Guthrie adopts a comprehensive and proactive approach to fire prevention, monitoring and response, combining operational expertise with advanced technology, robust water management practices and strong community partnerships. Our efforts extend beyond safeguarding our own estates and operations including:

• Groundwater Table Monitoring through piezometers installed across estates to manage water levels and reduce fire risk, particularly in peatland areas, where maintaining optimal groundwater levels is critical for reducing fire risk.
• Fire Hotspot Monitoring System that enables detection of hotspots, allowing fire response teams to be mobilised and limit fire spread. In Indonesia, monitoring extends beyond estate boundaries, with active surveillance and response within a 5 km radius of operations.  
• Fire Towers strategically located for fire detection.
• Drone Surveillance: Drones equipped with infrared (IR) or thermal cameras provide aerial visibility by detecting heat signatures while visible light view are used to monitor hotspots in estates in Indonesia.
• Fire Fighting Teams are deployed to respond to fire incidents. In Indonesia, there are 67 fire fighting teams with a total of 1,005 trained team members on the ground. The team goes beyond protecting our plantation areas by also supporting local authorities and the government in responding to fires in surrounding communities.
• Community Based Fire Prevention Programmes, particularly through Minamas Plantation's Desa Mandiri Cegah Api (DMCA) programme and Desa Mandiri Peduli Gambut (DMPG), which aim to strengthen local preparedness through awareness campaigns and firefighting training. The DMCA programme has covered 186,000 hectares and benefitted 100,000 local community members from 34 villages that have participated in the programme across Sumatera and Kalimantan regions.
• Collaboration with Local Government on KARHUTLA (Kebakaran Hutan dan Lahan) engagement with the community, including activity, training and talent development to strengthen preparedness for the dry season while enhancing coordination with stakeholders in efforts to prevent forest and land fires.
• The Guru Peduli Api initiative educates teachers on character building combined with environmental responsibility to prevent forest and land fires through early education and community awareness.
• A total of 153 Sekolah Peduli Api was launched since 2022 by Minamas Plantation in partnership with the Indonesia Heritage Foundation (IHF) to teach students and teachers about preventing forest and land fires. This initiative received the Sustainable Development Goals Award (ISDA) 2024 from Corporate Forum Community Development in 2024.
