Powering Tomorrow with Solar Energy – A Collaboration with Gamuda

SD Guthrie’s partnership with Gamuda Berhad to develop, own and operate up to 1.2 GW of solar power assets has taken a significant step forward with the signing of a Bilateral Energy Supply Contract ("BESC") term sheet between G3nerasi Kinta Sdn Bhd and a United States-based multinational technology company (“Offtaker”) for a proposed 680 MW renewable energy project in Perak, Malaysia.

G3nerasi Kinta Sdn Bhd is a joint venture company between Guthrie’s wholly owned subsidiary, SD Guthrie Renewable Energy Sdn Bhd, with Gamuda Energy Sdn Bhd and Gentari Renewables Sdn Bhd.

The BESC project is expected to achieve commercial operations in 2029 and will supply renewable power to the Offtaker’s data centre under Malaysia’s Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS).

The combination of Guthrie’s ownership of vast and strategically located land banks across Malaysia with Gamuda’s proven regional track record in engineering and delivering complex green infrastructure, presents a unique capacity for the joint venture to cater to the demand for scalable renewable energy solutions.

This latest development is a significant milestone in Guthrie’s strategy to unlock greater value from its land assets through strategic partnerships in building industrial hubs and renewable energy facilities, focusing on solar.  The strategy reflects Guthrie’s aspiration to grow its business beyond its core plantation operations and palm oil production, to further diversify earnings and create long-term value for its shareholders. By putting suitable land to productive and sustainable use, Guthrie aims to contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions and a more sustainable energy future for Malaysia.
