SD Guthrie’s Carey Heritage Run 2025 Marks a Milestone in Nature-Inspired Community Engagement
Petaling Jaya, 17 October 2025 – The Carey Heritage Run sprinted off to a vibrant start on Sunday morning, drawing more than 1,100 runners, which included members of the public and SD Guthrie Berhad (Guthrie) employees, to the lush landscapes of Carey Island, located in Banting, Selangor.
Against the backdrop of sunrise, river breeze and lush greens, participants embraced the spirit of community, wellness, and nature in one of Guthrie’s most treasured locations. The run event featured three categories — 21, 10 and 5 kilometre runs — which were flagged-off from 6.30 a.m.
The Carey Heritage Run is a brand new ecotourism initiative by Guthrie, one of the world’s largest producers of certified sustainable palm oil and part of a broader initiative to celebrate Carey Island as the crown jewel of Guthrie, showcasing its unique blend of ecological richness, cultural heritage, and innovation in sustainable agriculture. The backdrop of green palm trees and stretches of reforested areas provide the ideal setting for events that bring together science, nature, and people. The run will be followed by the Carey Heritage Ride, which will be held on 26th October, in conjunction with National Sports Month, which is in October, every year.
Guthrie’s women leaders also left a mark on the track during the Carey Heritage Run, when Board Member Jenifer Thien and Chief Human Resources Officer Shahrizan Aini Shamsul Khalil securing 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the 10KM Women’s Veteran category — a proud moment that reflects the company’s purpose – Care to Nourish, Dare to Flourish.
The run, follows the success of last weekend’s Carey Heritage Bird Photography Competition, during which, nature enthusiasts documented 65 bird species in stunning detail — a testament to the island’s rich biodiversity and its growing reputation as a haven for eco-tourism and conservation. Of the 65 bird species spotted last week, 34 had not been identified as part of Carey Island’s bird population.
The Carey Heritage Run and Ride, are more than just part of a calendar of sporting events — they are a movement that invites Malaysians and global visitors alike to reconnect with nature, celebrate local heritage, and witness the future of regenerative agriculture in action.
